The impact of innovation in South Africa: Collaboration with Innotegy, a South-African research group. Web of Science publication analysis and PATSTAT patent analysis focused on South Africa. General Q&A, extraction of publication data, extraction of patent data, documentation, and some preparations for triple-helix assignments.
Environmental turbulence in biotech: Collaboration with a researcher from the University of Würzburg. General Q&A, extraction of alliance data for the biotech industry, extraction of NBER patent data, calculation of environmental turbulence.
Eco-Innovation frontiers: An assignment for Technopolis Group Belgium. Provide environmental patent data as input for the background paper for a UNIDO general conference.
Technological distance: This assignment entailed finding the technological distance (TD) between all alliance participants in a focal's portfolio for a given year t. There were 150 focal biotech firms, and a total of 1696 firm names (including focals) were matched against PATSTAT.
Building the alliance database: The department of "Organisatiewetenschappen" (OW) of Tilburg University (UvT) has embarked upon a quest to build a database that will consist of alliance data from Thomson SDC Joint Ventures & Alliances, enriched with other social science data (e.g. financial data from Compustat, Amadeus, Datastream, or patent data from PATSTAT, USPTO).
Alliance Portfolio Complexity study: The project aims at investigating the effects of alliance portfolio complexity on innovation at the corporate level. For the purpose of the study, a unique dataset about 150 global highest R&D spenders in the biotech-pharma sector during the period 1985-2007 has been generated by integrating data from different sources like Amadeus, Compustat, PATSTAT, and Thomson SDC Platinum. Key variables elaborations include calculation of technological distance between partners, innovation performance and levels of exploration/exploitation (as patent counts) for all focal firms.

- Jong Ondernemen 2012
- Entrepreneurship study among students who participated in the Jong Ondernemen project. A collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology and Tilburg University.
- Alliance Best Practice Study into Partner Selection
- "This research project is carried out by the Eindhoven University of Technology and University of Applied Sciences Zuyd on behalf of Alliance Best Practice. The objective is to understand which steps, criteria and tools are critical for the partner selection process of an alliance."
- Alliance Capability Assessment 2007 & Alliance Capability Assessment 2009
- "When do alliances lead to success? Currently, firms increasingly engage in alliances. Yet, many alliances fail. So far, there is little known about conditions that facilitate firms in deriving value from their alliances. Therefore, this study aims to examine how firms manage their alliances and how this might help them to fully benefit from their alliances."
- Alliance Team Effectiveness Study 2009/2010
- "How effective is your alliance team? Increasingly companies make use of alliance project/task teams to successfully implement alliances. An alliance team refers to a team consisting of employees of your organization and your partner-organization(s) working together on an alliance project. Effective alliance teams have been shown to be critical to alliance success and innovation. So far, there is a lack of understanding of what determines the effectiveness of alliance teams. In order to better understand we investigate critical determinants as well as team dynamics that influence alliance success. This study is a dissertation research. The aim of the study is to develop managerial guidelines for managing effective alliance teams."
- Clean Development Mechanism & Technological Learning
- "This survey is part of a scientific research project undertaken by UNU-MERIT in collaboration with UNFCCC. The purpose of this survey is to investigate the learning impact of CDM projects in terms of technological expertise, skills, knowledge transfer as well as supporting factors and conditions for successful capability building by the CDM project operator."
- India Peace Project
- "In India, the systematic spate of bomb-blasts in major cities since the beginning of 2008, and the less publicized killings in rural areas, is all part of pre-meditated programs of terror-generation by different fundamentalist groups. Such subversive forces must be resisted for peace and prosperity to reign. Ordinary citizens, Indians and non-Indians, all over the world can also contribute to the formulation of long term planning towards peace by expressing their views on how terrorism can be eliminated in India, South Asia and the world at large. This is not an Indian problem alone, as there are such conflicts with terrorists in other parts of the world and most of the firms supplying arms are in developed countries."
